Up until 1991 the ferry port in Ayamonte was the only connection between Spain and Portugal in Huelva. The opening of the Internatipoanl bridge after 4 years construction in 1991 was fundamental in opening this area of Spain. However the ferry which still carries cars is still popular amoungst local and tourists alike. It is an ideal way to visit Villa Real de Santo Antonio in Portugal.
It is also a nice way to view Ayamonte along the banks of the Guadiana River. For only €1.50 per journey it is value for money.
